Find a case when you only know a name

Use the party-name search, then match the case details—not just the name.

Before you open the search

Keep the petitioner’s or respondent’s name and the token year beside you. The name field needs at least three characters. Use the spelling in your court papers.

Enter the search details

Select Open party-name search. On the court page, choose Nature of Case, enter Name and Year of Token, and select All, Pending or Disposed. Complete the displayed code and select Show.

Check the result

Match both parties, the case type and the year against your papers before using a result. Similar names can belong to different matters. Note the case number if the result provides one.

If nothing appears

Recheck the spelling, token year and status filter. Use All if you do not know the status. If you have a filing number, use the related filing-number guide. No result alone does not establish that a case was never filed.

Next step

For a hearing date, check the current cause list separately. A case-search result and a hearing list serve different purposes. Keep names and case details on the official court website.
