Prepare facts and the help requested

Write your name, a safe contact/address for replies, district/court, a short description and the help sought. Keep relevant notices, orders or an existing case reference available if you have them. Note any hearing or date printed on a notice. These notes help explain the request; the official form or office decides what supporting information is needed.

Choose the route you can use

Select Open legal-aid application guidance and read NALSA FAQ 12. It describes the front office, post, email and online routes; a plain-paper request is also possible. If you need help writing, ask an officer or paralegal volunteer about an oral application. Use the related district or High Court guide to identify the office.

For an online request

On NALSA’s page, use e-Services → Legal Aid Application. Read the live form before entering details; do not guess an eligibility category or required declaration. If a field is unclear, ask the relevant legal-services office. Save the application number and confirmation the official portal actually issues.

For an office, post or email request

Confirm the correct recipient using the official office directory. Keep a copy of the request and attached papers, and ask how receipt will be acknowledged. State where replies can safely reach you. NALSA says there is no charge to obtain or submit the free legal-aid application form.

Check the result using your reference

NALSA FAQ 59 describes online status checking with the application number. For an office submission, ask how the reply will reach you. Keep the decision and any request for more information. If a lawyer is assigned, keep the appointment letter/contact details and ask about the next hearing or action.

If the form fails or no reference appears

Note the date and error without sharing private papers here. Contact the receiving office to check whether the request arrived before submitting it again, or ask for an assisted route. Select Open Bihar legal-aid contacts for the district/state office and 15100. If aid is refused, keep the decision for the related refusal guide.
