Identify the document you need
Note the subject, rule title or notification number you were given. Distinguish High Court rules from civil-court, criminal-court or staff rules: this directory includes several kinds of documents. A similar title alone does not establish that it applies to your task.
Find the matching entry
Select “Open High Court rules directory”. Read the titles under Particulars, or use your browser’s Find on page with a distinctive part of the title. Search by subject as well as year so that older rules and later changes are not overlooked.
Open High Court rules directoryOpen and identify the document
Select View beside the relevant title. In the document, check its heading, notification reference and date before saving it. A practical note to keep is: document title; notification number; date; and the question for which you need it.
Look for related changes
Return to the directory and look for the same subject under amendments, addenda, corrigenda or circular orders. For example, e-certified-copy rules and an amendment appear as separate entries. Keep the related documents together; the directory does not present every subject as one combined text.
Check dates and document status
Check any commencement or effective-date wording in the document itself. The directory also contains notices and material marked draft. Do not decide applicability from its position in the list, or assume a later date changes every earlier rule.
If the title or download is unclear
Keep the exact directory title and any available reference. Ask the person who cited the rule to identify the relevant document and provision. If View does not open, return to the official directory and try that entry again; do not substitute an unrelated search result.
